I am a twenty something who has just conquered a two year battle with adult acne. My journey has inspired me to write this blog post explaining the learning process I went through- Thanks a lot acne! Hopefully I can help even one person who is caught off guard by this change and needs some advice.
If you are like me, than you have done extensive research as to how to cure your skin and get it back it's previous state. Most advice is contradicting, some say go for the benzoyl peroxides, the salicylic acids, others say never put chemicals on your face. Well, I've tried it all. I found a happy medium, more so on the gentler side. And I have to say I wish I would have given this a shot first before blowing hundreds of dollars on high end products that kind of cleared my zits and cysts, but also left my face in a swollen reddened state.
Okay, so I'm kind of long winded. Here's what has helped me finally break up with my acne!!!
Morning routine:
First I wash my face with Cerave Foaming Cleanser for normal to oily skin, then pat dry with a towel
Next I use T.N. Dickinson's witch hazel as a toner. I just squirt a bit on a cotton pad and then apply over face as you would a toner.
I let the witch hazel soak in for about a minute and then finish up with my Cetaphil Oil Control moisturizer with SPF 30. (Right now I'm testing out the Cerave Am moisturizer, also with SPF 30, but I'm weary about the fact that it's not oil free. I'll keep you posted)
If I am having a breakout I use 100% pure tea tree oil as a spot treatment. I will dip the end of a q-tipp in the bottle, then dab it on the breakout.
Before Bed Routine:
I do everything exactly the same until I get to the moisturizer step. Because we don't need SPF at night, I use the Cerave PM moisturizer.
And again I spot treat with tea tree oil
A HOLY GRAIL tip I wish I had come across sooner:
Mask of Magnaminty from Lush- this stuff will change.your.life. I mean if you need something that is going to clear your skin while calming it, this is your new BFF4L! Oh and to top it off it leaves you with that red carpet glow! I use this once or twice a week, and I'll never be without it.NEVER!
I truly hope this helped at least someone. Everybody's skin is different, so these product may not work for you as a collective. But I suggest giving them a try, you might just find your holy grail! The Cerave products were recommended to me by my dermatologist. The others I either came across via the advice of other bloggers of my own dumb luck.
If you would like more information about a specific product I would be happy to do a more detailed post about why it works,
